We have
talked in class about what a memoir is: it is a written recollection of
important events in the author's life, often written a great deal of
time after those events have taken place.
To Kill a Mockingbird, though fictional, is written like a
memoir. Jean Louise "Scout" Finch looks back on significant
relationships and events in her childhood. Her memories take on an
intriguing tone: they capture the innocence and sense of discovery and
confusion she felt as a child, but they are told with the wisdom and
maturity that comes with years.
YOU are going to take a turn writing a
memoir of your own. We are going to accomplish this in tasks.
>> Getting Started
Freshman Assignment for Friday, January 27:
Yesterday, you listed three things about
yourself.
Today your tasks are: (finish as many as you can with the time you have
left)
1. Consider the three things that came to mind about YOU. Brainstorm
a list of at least three possible TITLES for your memoir.
2. Choose one of those three things you wrote yesterday and think of a
story to go along with it.
3. Write
a rough draft paragraph or a rough outline of that story.
4. Think of a THEME SONG for yourself to go along with your memoir. You
may search permissible lyrics sites but you MAY NOT print any lyrics.
Start thinking about in what ways this song fits who you are. Record the
name of your song and why it fits you.
5. Compile all of these things in a MS Word document and turn in as much
as you could get done to me before leaving today.
